2005.01.25 Imitation is Best Form of Flattery

Some game designers and publisher need to know when to quit, just like some movie makers (e.g. Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, IV, V, etc.). And what about Crash 'N' Burn? Do they really think that they're going to draw the crowd away from those who played Burnout 3? Sorry, Charlie. Not even selling it for less than $20.00 will help.

MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf XBox 3 out of 5 stars
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories GBA 4 out of 5 stars
Crash ‘N’ Burn PS2 & XBox 3 out of 5 stars
Mega Man X8 GCN, XBox, PS2, GBA 2 out of 5 stars
Technic Beat PS2 2 out of 5 stars

2005.01.19 "What ever happened to Kate Botello?"

Who is Kate Botello?

Adam Sessler's closing remarks was a little interesting:

... Rant on about how there's outside powers that's forcing us to do things beyond our will. You guys are worse than the JFK theorists.

This episode came days after a reply that Adam Sessler left on the G4TechTV Forum board for X-Play. The article involved the poor review that was given to the game "Fight Club" and a player who had purchased the game prior to the review.

For those of you who don't know, Fightclub was a crappy fighting game released on the PS2 and XB...

... But they have reviewed all the other really bad games before at a time close to it's release, and they're weren't ads for them...

He/she then theorized:

This brings me to why I think they didn't review it, did anyone else notice the ads running 24-7 on g4ttv for the game?

In the response, Adam stated that much of the staff of X-Play were on vacation and many games were released near the end of the year. They got to reviewing the games as quickly as possible but apparently not quick enough... this game released before they aired the review of the game.

Adam continued and wrote:

Honestly, where do these paranoid theories arise from? I'm worried that this show is helping foster a generation of delusion that can only end in tears when you realise that the evil forces you hoped were to blame were actually a collection of shmoes who are only a decade or two older than you.

Needless to say, many readers were skeptical about the reply. Did this really come from Adam Sessler or was someone trying to be Adam Sessler. In this day and age of electronic identification, being someone else is all too common and frequent. You would've figured to be a valid question, especially since there was nothing to indicate otherwise. This erupted quick and dirty between the mods and the posters.

*sigh* I would like to thank Adam for getting on the message boards and hope to see more postings from him and other show hosts.

Now... "Why does it [Nintendo Mario Party 6's microphone] look like a tampon?"

2005.01.18 Two Months Later, Morgan Speaks...

Morgan Webb: January 16, 2005 - January 22, 2005 Archives

Officially, there are no "nudes" of Morgan Webb, so you folks that are constantly looking for such nudes, you might as well install Adobe Photoshop and alter the images you find. And not that I've been searching, but there are some that have been brought to my attention (in some form of spam) that are definitely lacking in some realism.

Kelly ClarksonHah hah, she jumped on the bandwagon and signed up for those referral systems that gives you some electronic hardware (e.g. iPod, PCs, etc.) provided that you complete one of their offers and get "X" number of other users to join. In the poll scene, Keira Knightley defeated Jennifer Love-Hewitt, almost 2 to 1. Next on the scene, is Kelly Clarkson, who incidentally sung "Breakaway" for Anne Hathaway's Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement.

From the rumormill, keep your ears peeled for a possible collaboration between the former employees of TechTV (Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, Roger "The Notorious ROG" Chang, Kevin Rose (and maybe Dan Huard) & David Krieger). From a "roundtable" gathering of friends at MacWorld 2005, the group discussed the lack of "TechTV"-like programming on current TV schedules. Check out: TLR 2005-01-11 MacWorld Expo R. By St. Patrick's Day, Patrick Norton will have some type of content management/blogger website up and running.

The possible winning numbers have also increased, giving visitors a much better chance of winning an invite code.

IHMW wants to thank many of you that have been donating your invite codes and hope that you'll continue to donate your Gmail invites.

2005.01.12 Never Miss A Class with Professor Morgan Webb

As a personal note, if Morgan Webb was heading up a class at my university, I would never register an absentee marking during the entire course. As you know, game designing and graphics have become a hot and popular circulum to take at colleges and universities. Those thinking of having a career in such areas, more power to you.

If haven't heard already, G4 Media has already started the transition of dropping the TECH from G4TechTV and continues to press towards introducing titles appealing to gaming community.

From the ashes of "Unscrewed with Martin Sargent" comes "Girls Gone Wired", a digital beauty contest featuring the hottest 2D and 3D women on the planet, which is set to premiere in May. "X-Play's" Adam Sessler and "Judgment Day's" Victor Lucas, two of G4's leading video game experts, were among the "Girls Gone Wired" TCA panelists and provided critics with insight on which video game hotties should make the cut. In addition, sexy video game warrior Jade took a break from doing battle in Mortal Kombat: Deception to make a special virtual appearance.

In other news, Kevin Rose will be continuing with productions of "The Broken" in hopes of bring the tech news like that of the OLD TSS. Check out his article for ways to help bring this into fruition.

2005.01.11 Y.A.W.W.2.G

Y.A.W.W.2.G. - Yet Another World War 2 Game. I think if you put all the World War 2 games together, the amount of time you would need to play it would be more than the war itself. I still believe the best RTS game is Rise of Nations, taking everything good about RTS and TBS games and putting it in this game.

In other news, Sarah Lane has been helping with co-hosting the Screen Savers. Now, whether this is temporary or more of a permanent nature, the previous co-host, Chi-Lan Lieu, is now sitting in the Nook. This might have something to Chi-Lan in-ability to properly provide answers to call-ins during the show (but then again, the call-ins could be staged). Anyways, we'll see what happens.

According to Reuters, Take-Two Interactive Software plans to port the popular game Grand Theft Auto as part of the line-up of games that will be available for Sony's new gaming handheld console, the PSP. Expect Liberty City and San Andreas to follow.

If you're attending George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, you might be a victim of having your identify stolen. It's been reported that the Social Security numbers and other information of over 30,000 students and staff have been captured earlier this month.

2005.01.06 British Queen Reign Continues...

Jennifer Love-HewittLast week's British queen continues her reign with the defeat of Genovia's princess, Anne Hathaway. Out of the 404 votes collected, 64.4% (260 votes) went with Keira Knightley while the rest of you 35.6% voters (144 votes) went to Anne Hathaway. So, Keira extends her winning streak to 2-in-a-row.

Coming into the ring, Keira's new challenger, Jennifer Love-Hewitt. You've seen her in "Heartbreakers" and "Garfield". You've even seen her in the TV-series, "Party of Five".

What are her chances in the ring with the reigning queen? You decide.

2005.01.05 Too Much SIMz in Life...

Okay, EA is differently milking the many successful game titles like The Lord of the Rings but after three good runs -- the company should know when to quit. Of course, this is the same company that's signed a 5-year exclusive contract with the NFL that ONLY EA will have the rights to creating future console sports games; probably fearing the competition as ESPN puts out better games and selling at lower prices.

I always thought that ESPN was the name in sports.

The Sims is another series of games that needs to know when to quit. Users trying to pose as Goth/Punkers ??? Sheesh.

2005.01.04 The First Episode of the New Year

Well, whatta-know... the first 'new' episode for the new year and what does Adam Sessler say in the first five minutes of the show:

Blinx, the time traveling cat returns and even his time sweeping abilities can't bring TechTV back.

Is this some hidden meaning that Adam was trying to convey or was this something G4 wanted to tell the audience hoping for the return of TechTV format and programming?

In other related news, G4(TechTV) has cancelled the rerun airing of Unscrewed with Martin Sargent. Fear not, you can still read about Laura Swisher at her personal blog.
